Do You Use a Money App? You May Be Entitled to a $2,500 Payment

Have a recently compromised Cash App account? You may be eligible for a claim payment of up to $2,500 if you had/had an active Cash App account from August 23, 2018, until August 20, 2024, and one of the following applies to you: you may have been unauthorized or of fraud on it during those days, or your Cash App account has been accessed without your authorization.

Why is there a case?

According to the payment site, the class action began when a former employee of the company accessed data on certain Cash App accounts in 2022. Then in 2023, an unauthorized user was able to access other Cash App accounts using numbers linked to those. Cash App and its parent company, Block, have also faced allegations of negligence in their obligations related to security for users and failure to put in place appropriate measures to control fraud.

To make matters worse, the lawsuit alleges that Cash App underestimated several user complaints and failed to resolve them. It has also refused to take responsibility for any problems it has caused but has agreed to resolve them. A detailed version of the complaint can be found here.

How do I know if I’m eligible?

You are eligible for the payout if you had/had a Cash App or Cash App investment account between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024, again one of the following is true of you: your account was accessed without your authorization, or you were fraudulently withdrawn from or transferred to it.

How much am I eligible for?

Cash App and Block have agreed to a $15 million settlement fund. The amount will initially be used to cover attorney’s fees and related expenses. After deductions are made, it will be divided equally among the class members. The exact amount you end up receiving depends on the number of victims who file a claim, but you can file up to $2,500.

You can also make up for the time you lost in trying to solve the fraudulent activities you encountered. That’s $25 an hour for up to three hours. If the settlement fund runs out, you will be paid a reduced amount according to the rata.

How do I apply?

You can file a claim online here, along with relevant evidence of your claims. You can also call 1-866-615-9740 to file a claim or write to the Cash App Settlement Administrator, 1650 Arch Street, Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA 19103. The fastest way to do it is online, though.
