Swiatek defeats Collins to reach Olympic semifinals

Collins leaves to follow 1-6, 6-2,1-4

World #1 and the reigning French Open champion is back in contention for her fifth grand slam title with hopes of a medal at the Paris Olympics. I 23year old led Danielle Collins 6-1 in the lead but he was willing to fight as he was given an outstanding American season.

New-ball Swiatek hit his second ace and with two balls in a row for the first time, he tied the break. 2-0. Collins made three unforced errors, slowed down, and asked for physio. He left the court for medical treatment apparently to have his stomach taped again.

Swiatek surrendered two unforced errors but with a cross court win, tied the break 4-0. Collins opened the fifth with an overhead smash and two more winners including an ace out wide, held 1-4.

Swiatek opened with an overcooked back but two points later the game ended abruptly when Collins approached the chair asserting that he would not be able to continue due to a stomach injury. It was an unfortunate end to a very competitive and exciting game.
