Swiatek defeats Collins to reach Olympic semifinals

World #1 and the reigning French Open champion is back in contention for her fifth grand slam title with hopes of a medal at the Paris Olympics. I 23year old led Danielle Collins 6-1 in the lead but he was willing to fight as he was given an outstanding American season.
Collins twice The NCAA the champion announced that he will retire at the end of this season but it has been great since he made the switch 2016. This past spring he won for the first time WTA 1000 title in Miami and the following week on clay in Charleson, the Credit One Open, a WTA 500 event. The thirty-year-old Floridian reached a career high of #.7 in the middle 2022 and you are currently ranked 9th.
Swiatek representing Poland won the toss and chose to serve. He did 3/5 first serves and is easily caught to 15 when Collins missed 4/5 and condemned to serve. World #1 hit a second winner from behind the line and made up the break when Collins ripped the front down the line 1-3.
Swiatek faced 0-30 following two netted strikes but made a remarkable run in front, caught 30 for 4-1. The American was gifted with two forehand faults, faced a double point, and dropped serve when Swiatek crushed a backhand. Swiatek struggled to close out a triple break point but prevailed with six straight games first.

Collins played first in the second with new balls. He opened by winning a forehand volley but with a double fault, he faced a break point. He fought and held following three deuce points and his first ace.
Swiatek is unbelievably discarded despite being made 5/5 first you worship. Collins maintained his aggressive attitude as he hit two more aces to seal the break.
Swiatek hit two winners including his first ace to get on the board. The American opened the fifth with his fourth ace and held to love 4-1. The four-time French Open champion had four winners including a match point tie 2-4.

Swiatek left the court long after the end of the second set and when he returned, he was greeted with boos. Collins served first in the decider and despite four more winners including his sixth ace, he surrendered his second double fault and a forfeit.
New-ball Swiatek hit his second ace and with two balls in a row for the first time, he tied the break. 2-0. Collins made three unforced errors, slowed down, and asked for physio. He left the court for medical treatment apparently to have his stomach taped again.

Swiatek opened with an overcooked back but two points later the game ended abruptly when Collins approached the chair asserting that he would not be able to continue due to a stomach injury. It was an unfortunate end to a very competitive and exciting game.
