Hamas says a kidnapped woman was killed in northern Gaza
Hamas says a woman abducted was killed during Israel’s attack on northern Gaza.
The woman’s identity has not yet been revealed, and it was not clear how or when she died.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it could not yet “confirm or deny” the claim, but that its representatives are in contact with the woman’s family.
“This evening, the terrorist organization Hamas released a document in which it is suspected that a kidnapped woman appears to have been killed,” the IDF said in a statement. “We are looking into the information and at this time we cannot confirm or deny it.”
Hamas says that contact with the woman’s captors was only restored after several weeks, which led to the discovery of her death.
Abu Ubeida, a spokesman for Hamas’s military wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, said that another woman abducted by a female prisoner was wounded and her life was in danger.
Israeli authorities believe around 60 hostages remain in Gaza – along with the bodies of others believed to be dead.
The news came as Israel continued its operation across Gaza on Saturday.
According to the health department run by Hamas in this area, about 120 people were killed by Israeli planes in this area in the last 48 hours.
Israel launched a campaign to destroy Hamas following the group’s unprecedented attack in southern Israel on October 7, 2023, in which approximately 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were captured.
About 44,000 people have been killed and more than 104,000 injured in Gaza since then, according to the Hamas-run health ministry in the area.
