Kamala Harris’ Twitch account streams a Tim Waltz session alongside live WoW gameplay
In August, Kamala Harris’ campaign launched a Twitch account in an effort to reach young people and other “hard-to-reach voters” out there. It started with a series of acceptance speeches by Harris at the Democratic National Convention, which is probably what one would expect from a presidential campaign account. However, on the evening of October 9, the station aired a live game for the first time – along with a live feed of Arizona Vice President-elect Tim Waltz’s speech.
As It has strings notes, the creator of Twitch Preheat kicked things off with a play Military World channel at 6:30PM ET. Preheat, you told It has strings that they are dedicated to the project because of Harris’ platform, they also provide comments about the game and encourage viewers to vote. “The GOP is the opposite of the POG,” they said at one point during the broadcast. A spokesperson told the newspaper that the campaign hopes to reach the votes of young men who make up the majority of Twitch users by broadcasting the meeting on the sidelines. Wow game play.
Harris isn’t the first politician to use Twitch to reach voters. Joe Biden’s administration broadcast his inauguration on the website, while Donald Trump’s campaign has been broadcasting rallies and speeches on the platform since 2019. The former president’s account was suspended following the January 6 US Capitol protest, but was reinstated in July of this year. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is on Twitch, too, and has streamed herself a few times while playing. Among Us.
