Tim Bradley thinks Devin Haney’s decision to sue Ryan Garcia for PED testing made things worse for him instead of improving the situation.
Bradley says Haney is wasting his money and time by suing Ryan (23-1, 20 KOs) for their April 20 fight, which he lost via a 12-round majority decision in Brooklyn, New York. People won’t want to work with Haney after this, and that would be the ruin of his career. Burn, baby, burn!
Former two-division world champion Haney has already gone downhill since his loss, but things could get worse if promoters and their fighters treat him like a leper, seeing him as an outlaw who can’t handle losing.
Bradley points out that Ryan has already been fined a million and a half dollars and suspended for a year by the New York State Athletic Commission for testing positive for Ostarine.
It is now dealing with him, Ryan saying that he will not give him a repeat. So unless he changes his mind, that’s a big payday for Haney to miss out on because of his offense. That puts pressure on Haney to win because if they don’t win there won’t be a repeat of Ryan and it is considered that he is suffering from fights with their promoters.
“This is very soft [stuff] I’ve seen it in my life,” said Tim Bradley on Probox TV about Devin Haney’s case against Ryan Garcia. “Who will want to fight you and give you that payday? The result was a million dollars that they took from him.
“One and a half million rands were taken from him, and then he was suspended for a year. Gap year. That’s what they gave him, and they thought it was appropriate,” Bradley said of the New York Athletic Commission’s fine and Ryan’s one-year suspension for testing positive for the banned PED Ostarine.
“Let’s move forward. Let’s not continue to live in the past. Now, Haney is taking this back. I don’t get it. Haney, you are wasting your time. You are wasting your money. You are wasting other opportunities. Everyone looked at you like you were crazy,” said Bradley.
The fans looked at Haney as if he was mentally weak for choosing to sue instead of focusing on getting him back. In an interview Haney gave to Ariel Helwani, he revealed that he would pay Ryan and get a rematch. He may find that things go wrong in his planning.
“Haney, you were in the war. You fought against the wrong game plan, but now you want to come and sue. It doesn’t make sense.
“Ryan Garcia didn’t really train [for the Haney fight]. He was fat. I was told, ‘He was like 17, 20 lbs overweight that Monday before the fight. He didn’t want to make weight, Tim. “However, he did what he had to do, he got down to 143 lbs, he got on the scale, he gave up the money as he said,” said Bradley.
Ryan looked big the week of the fight as if he didn’t cut enough weight during camp and will have trouble getting down to 140. It’s no surprise that Ryan lost 3.5 lbs because he didn’t seem to train hard the last two weeks. Maybe Ryan thought he was going to lose and realized he shouldn’t put himself through the torture to lose the weight he needed.
“Haney is making this worse and worse for himself. People will not support him and be behind him. You just need to take this bad luck and take it as a man and move on, Haney,” said Bradley.
Many fans believe Haney is hurting his career badly with this move, which, if he wins, could bring in the kind of money he thinks it will. Losing the money for the rematch would be devastating for Haney, and avoidance would leave him nowhere. He may end up kicking himself later in life, full of regret.
