Plant Wants Canelo, Jermall or Berlanga Next
Caleb Plant says he wants Canelo Alvarez, Edgar Berlanga, or Jermall Charlo after winning the WBA interim super middleweight title Saturday night with a ninth-round TKO victory over #8 Trevor McCumby in Las Vegas.

Hot list of plants
- JErmall Charlo: He has fought once in the past three years, and is not listed on the 15-man list by any of the four sanctioning bodies. If he does return, it is not expected that he will fight Plant.
- Canelo Alvarez: It is reported that Canelo will wait to see who wins the October 12 light heavyweight championship between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev. Canelo wants Bivol next May. So, if hie wins that fight, Canelo will target him.
- Edgar Berlanga: The New York native suffered a loss to Canelo on Saturday night, and likely won’t be interested in a fight with Plant. Berlanga could make more money fighting David Benavidez or Jaime Munguia.
None of the three want Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) expected to fight him next after taking the interim WBA title. That’s not even a real belt.
Being a WBA official would be more beneficial to Plant than holding the interim title because that won’t help him get a rematch with Canelo, and his performance on Saturday night against McCumby didn’t help him either.
Plant is under the mistaken impression that the interim WBA belt he won will be promoted to the ‘regular’ belt, which David Morrell held before moving up to 175. What Plant does not know is that the World Boxing Association has eliminated the ‘regular’ title as part of their reduction plan.
That means that Plant will not be promoted to be a ‘general champion’, as he has repeatedly stated in the media. The only way Plant can be a true WBA champion is if Canelo chooses to fight him, and that doesn’t seem likely.
“Berlanga didn’t really win the round. He was very defensive. Yes, me and Canelo. Me and Berlanga. Me too [Jermall] Charles. I think these are three big fights that the boxing world would like, and three big fights that I would like to be in,” said Caleb Plant in a press conference after the fight, listing the short list he wants. next fight follows his ninth round knockout victory over WBA #8 ranked Trevor McCumby on Saturday night.
Other logical options available in Plant:
– Diego Pacheco
– David Morrell
– Christian Mbili
– Osleys Inglesias
– Sergiy Derevyanchenko
