The Boeing boss made one last plea to workers before the strike vote

The new CEO of Boeing, Kelly Ortberg, has urged the workers not to go on strike because that would “jeopardize the recovery of the company”.

It comes hours before a key union vote that could spark industrial action at the troubled company.

The airline giant’s officials and union representatives reached an agreement earlier this week that includes a 25% wage increase over four years, but so far it has not been approved by union members.

If the workers vote against the agreement it will lead to a second vote on whether to go on strike from Friday.

“I ask you not to give up the opportunity to protect our future together, because of the frustration of the past,” said Mr. Ortberg in his message to employees.

“By working together, I know we can get back on track, but a strike would put our recovery together at risk”.

The current contract between Boeing and the union was reached in 2008 after an eight-week strike.

In 2014, the two sides agreed to extend the agreement, which is due to expire at midnight on Thursday.

This is happening as the company is facing huge financial losses and continues to struggle to repair its reputation following recent incidents and two fatal accidents in the past five years.
