Caleb Plant tells Trevor McCumby: “I’m a real hero, not a Bum”
Caleb Plant insisted he’s “not a smoker” but a “real fighter” at today’s final press conference for his fight with undefeated Trevor McCumby on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The Plant Wants to be Confirmed
The former IBF super middleweight Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) sounded insecure when he gave a speech that sounded like he was being tested on the platform, wanting to build his credibility with words rather than actions, which he failed to do on these two occasions. he came up against the top ranked in the world three years ago when he lost to David Benavidez and Canelo Alvarez.
Plant cannot afford to lose this fight if he wants to remain one of the best contenders in the super middleweight division. Apparently, he is eaten by young men who are mobile, hungry, ambitious and willing to fight.
‘Sweethands’ Plant is not a bully, but he doesn’t fight very often and has lost two of his last three fights. He is coming off an 18-month layoff and a 12-round knockout in his previous fight against David Benavidez in March 2023. When you consider all of that, Saturday’s Plant vs. McCumby is 50-50.
The undefeated Plant and McCumby (28-0, 21 KOs) will meet in a 12-round WBA interim 168-lb championship on Saturday night. This is an important time McCumby’s 14-year career where he proved to be one of the best fighters.
McCumby was chosen by Plant for a reason. If he thought he was so good, he wouldn’t agree to fight the Illinois native and would ignore him in favor of someone else who couldn’t be beaten.
Plant, 32, is clearly at the bottom of his career and will be beaten by top contenders, but it remains to be seen if McCumby has what it takes to beat him.
Caleb Plant: “Trevor also knows that I’m not a bully and that’s why he wants to fight me. He wants to be on the big stage, and that means facing a real hero. He only fought with the Boers, but he doesn’t fight with the bomb now. I’m getting that belt around my waist on Saturday night. I don’t look beyond that.
Trevor McCumby: “Caleb is emotional and lets people get into his head easily. On Saturday, you will see what I can do in the ring. You have to sing this one because it will steal the show.”
It would mean a lot if the Plant-McCumby fight “steals the show” in the main event between Canelo and Edgar Berlanga. McCumby’s victory would be the final nail in Plant’s career, signaling that it was time for him to retire.
