Apple AirPods 4 do not come with a charging cable
The new AirPods that Apple recently announced at its iPhone 16 event come with cases with USB-C ports, but they won’t ship with USB-C charging cables in the box. As 9 on 5 Mac have seen, the official page for the new devices says that USB-C charging cables are sold separately for both the basic AirPods 4 and the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. Apple did not reveal the lack of a cable in the package of the earbuds at this event, but perhaps the company’s thinking was that most people already have a bunch of USB-C cables on hand. However, the lightning port of the AirPods cases has recently been removed, so current users have received lightning cables with their previous models.
Apple started selling its devices without charging bricks years ago, and it stopped shipping the Apple TV with a USB cable for its Siri charger in 2022. So, no, this is not unprecedented, but those who do not have additional cable. to use with AirPods 4 you will have to buy it. The latest version of AirPods Max comes with a cable, however, so those looking to get a pair don’t have to add one to their shopping cart.
For those still undecided on whether to get the AirPods 4: We found the ANC performance to be impressive. Engadget’s Senior Reporter, Billy Steele, was able to try it out in the frenzy of Apple Park, and the built-in noise cancellation nearly silenced a room full of attendees. Apple also called the new models “the most convenient AirPods.”
