After winning her third major title, Sabalenka once again made it clear that she is still No.1 in her ears, five years after her passing.

When asked how he feels about his place in sports history after seeking his third major title, Sabalenka said:

“After the death of my father, it was already my goal to include my family name in the history of tennis. Every time I see my name on that trophy I’m proud of myself, I’m proud of my family for not giving up on my dream and doing everything possible for me to continue.”

Sabalenka, 27-1 in her 28th Grand Slam final on hard courts, is now fourth on the list of active WTA title winners, behind Venus Williams (7), Iga Swiatek (5) and Naomi Osaka (4).

She defeated Jessica Pegula, 7-5, 7-5 on Saturday at Arthur Ashe Stadium to cement her status as the toughest court player in women’s tennis.

“It’s always been my dream,” she said. “I can no longer believe that I was able to achieve, as me and my team, we have been able to achieve a lot.”
