Can Berlanga’s Jab upset Canelo Alvarez?

Edgar Berlanga has talked about wanting to use his jab to defeat superstar Canelo Alvarez this Saturday night, September 14.

Jab: Berlanga’s Potential Weapon

Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) and his team apparently watched Canelo’s fights with Floyd Mayweather Jr., Erislandy Lara, Gennadiy Golovkin, and Dmitry Bivol and noted that those four gave Alvarez problems with their jabs.

The problem that may prevent Berlanga from following the success of those fights against Canelo (61-2-2, 39 KOs) is that he is not known for playing hard. Berlanga is more than just a puncher who uses his jab briefly while charging forward.

It may be difficult for Berlanga to transition to being a boxer in this fight, especially if his excitement isn’t that great. If Berlanga throws a slow jab, Canelo will counter him and maybe knock him out.

Canelo will defend his WBC, WBC, and WBO super middleweight titles against WBA #1 contender Berlanga this Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event will air live on DAZN PPV starting at 8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT and costs $89.99.

“Who are the four fights that gave Canelo problems? The best is Floyd Mayweather. GGG, nice jab. He had a very low jab,” said Chris Algeri on YouTube channel Probox TV about the tough fighters that gave Canelo Alvarez problems. “Erislandy Lara. He’s a southpaw and has a good jab.

“Lastly, Bivol, another guy with a good jab that changes distance. Those are the boys who gave it to him [Canelo] a big problem.”

Those fighters were/are on a different level than Berlanga. Therefore, it doesn’t seem logical that he would be able to achieve the same success that those fighters had against Canelo. If Berlanga had not rushed the Canelo fight and gained more experience first, he would have had a better time transitioning into his game.

“I want him [Berlanga] to be the boy he says he is. I hope that he will not agree to put himself on social media about what people say about what will happen. I hope that he will live in all this beautiful sound that he has created for himself,” said Algeri.

Whatever Berlanga says, you have to take it with a grain of salt because he hasn’t proven himself against good opposition. He has come up short in five fights against B-level opponents.

“Look, I’m definitely better than him. I always fight with everyone, people say. If they really want to see the fight, they paid me well,” said Canelo Alvarez on the DAZN Boxing channel, talking about David Benavidez. “Yeah,” Canelo said about how he thinks he’s the best fighter in boxing.

Canelo did not say how much he wants for the fight with David Benavidez. He has talked about asking for $200 million, but that is not happening. If Canelo waits longer he will get less money when the match happens. Most would agree that Canelo’s popularity is declining because he is no longer fighting the groups of fans who want to see him fight.

“Since I fought with Bivol, I went down [in the pound-for-pound lists]. They don’t see that I gained weight to try and get bigger, but that’s okay. I feel much better. 24,” said Canelo when asked how old he felt.

Canelo misses the point. The reason he dropped down the pound-for-pound rankings isn’t because of his loss to Bivol. He lost because of the quality of the team he was chosen to fight against since he lost. Canelo stopped taking serious fights, and was only dealing with gimmes.

“Obviously I have to take care of my body because I have been in professional boxing for 19 years. But I feel bigger, stronger, and faster. “I feel like I have four or five more years,” said Canelo, explaining how long he plans to fight.

If Canelo fights at the same level as the one he just fought, he can fight four more to give him years, but he will have to avoid good opposition like Diego Pacheco and Christian Mbilli because those would be tough fights they could lose. .
