Folie à Deux’s Stars Are Pretty Sure The Music They Made Is Not A Musical
Joker: Folie in DeuxThe press tour is well underway as the DC film sequel nears its theatrical release, and director Todd Phillips and star Lady Gaga are adamant that the film sequel is not a musical. The only problem is their quick explanations of what the film is about actually marches, speeches, and sashays exactly match the dictionary definition of music.
During a The Joker 2 press junket at the Venice International Film Festival, Gaga emphasized that The Joker 2 it’s not music because it’s different from the norm.
“The way music is used is to give the actors a way to express what they have to say because space and dialogue are not enough,” said Gaga.
Reader, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a musical as “a film or theatrical production that is usually sentimental or humorous consisting of musical numbers and dialogue based on a cohesive plot.” In other words, that’s exactly what Gaga just said The Joker 2 this is not the case.

As previously mentioned, Gaga is not the first person involved The Joker 2 to minimize the film’s obvious musical tendencies. In an interview with Variety a few weeks ago, Phillips admitted that he struggles with labels The Joker 2 as a musical despite having musical numbers where Phoenix and Gaga come out and sing classics like “Jabulela,” “For Once in My Life,” and “No Kupila That.”
“Most of the music in the film is just dialogue. “Arthur just doesn’t have the words to say what he wants to say, that’s why he sings them,” Phillips told Variety, trying to explain what music is.
“I just don’t want people to think that’s the case At the heightwhen the bodega lady started singing and they took her out to the street, and the police danced,” continued Phillips. “No disrespect, because I loved you At the height.”
“Arthur has music in him. That was a very logical point to follow.” Joker: Folie à Deux – in theaters only once @imaxOctober 4. #JokerMovie #FilmedForIMAX pic.twitter.com/Jmlj8sF1fQ

Thankfully, it’s great The Joker X’s Twitter account recently uploaded a feature titled “Music Inside;” in it, Phillips, Phoenix, and Gaga recount that using music—albeit in an audible way—was a logical jumping-off point for the series. Even if the music sounds bad, it’s still music.
Whether history will take it or not The Joker 2 musical or not, the clown-centric film will hit theaters on October 4.
