Someone Keeps Getting Unwanted Trump ‘Chillin Like a Felon’ Jerseys in the Mail
Trump jerseys won’t stop appearing in a Denver man’s home. “I didn’t order these,” Rick said, in an interview with NBC affiliate 9News on Wednesday, as a new package appeared filled with Trump’s jersey.
In mid-July, Rick received a text notification from the US Postal Service that his package from TikTok would be delivered soon. He was confused as he had not ordered anything from TikTok and does not use the site. He opened the package when it arrived and found a sweater inside printed with a cartoon face of Donald Trump floating lazily in the tube downstream.
“Chillin like a felon” the shirt said in hot pink.
Now the shirts arrive at Rick’s house every few days and they are piling up. They come from all over the country, including states like Texas, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, and Virginia. The shirts are also slightly different. In others Trump is relaxed, at rest, floating in the river with untroubled hands. In one he holds some type of alcoholic beverage until the audience arrives and the symbol is repeated elsewhere on the jersey.
There’s a Trump with a twist of tea, a Trump with a Budweiser, a Trump with a Coors, and even a Trump with a Michelob Ultra Light. If you are a fan of Trump and his thugs, you can find his jersey with your favorite brand of beer.
Rick was confused until a package arrived with a piece of paper that gave him answers. It was a return order for a purchase from TikTok. It looks like people are buying jerseys from a seller on TikTok and then returning them. 9News called a list of people who had sent the packages and confirmed that they were actually trying to return the shirts. People who spoke to 9News had not yet received their money. According to Rick, one of the shirts had a mustard stain.
I found a dozen shops selling Trump jerseys on TikTok before I stopped counting. Like Amazon, TikTok makes it easy for people unhappy with their purchases to return items. They just take the items to the Post Office or UPS, scan the label, and give it to the clerk. Some of the stores on TikTok have sold hundreds of jerseys, others just a few. One of them may have written Rick’s home address as their own. Hence, a wave of unwanted Trump sweaters on his front porch.
Thrift stores that sell t-shirts and sweaters are very common all over the internet. It is an easy product for a drop shipper to travel. They don’t have to hold inventory or even design the art themselves, they just need to find someone else to pay for the shirt and they can print it on demand and ship it to the customer.
TikTok did not return Gizmodo’s request for comment.
