New York – Fourth seed Elena Rybakina has withdrawn from the US Open, dispatching French player Jessica Ponchet in the third round.
“Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from my game today because of my injury,” said Rybakina in a statement. I hope I can close out the rest of the year strong.
“Thank you to all the fans who have had and continue to support me, and I wish the remaining players the best of luck.”
Rybakina has had a difficult 2024 season, and has withdrawn due to illness from several tournaments.
He recently withdrew from the Paris and Toronto Olympics due to bronchitis, and Rome, where he was the defending champion, due to illness. He also withdrew from Indian Wells, talking about defending his title there.
He also withdrew before the quarterfinals in Dubai, also due to illness. When she did play, Rybakina was solid. He won 41 times in the season, and claimed titles in Stuttgart, Abu Dhabi and Stuttgart.
