Boxing Results: Hurd and Rosario Draw on ProBoxTV
Jarrett Hurd (25-3-1) and Jeison Rosario (24-4-2) are both men who needed to win. This clash of two world title holders was intended to revive careers and move up the heavyweight division. We broadcast on ProBox TV and Youtube through ProBox Promotions, and it was meant to give them a unique platform to shine.
Instead, the fighters battled to a disappointing decision in the allotted ten rounds, with scores reading 95-95, 96-94 and 94-96.
Certainly, both men knew stakes and fought like them; Hurd in particular – while he didn’t turn back the clock – looked in his best form in years. Using a sharp, disciplined jab, Hurd was able to keep Rosadio at bay at intervals throughout the fight.
Likewise, Rosario applied pressure to the mature display, gradually increasing his output to confuse Hurd. Neither fighter was able to find the other on the way to the draw, with speed and power that could not surpass each other.
Meanwhile, the main event was a much lighter affair, with bantamweight prospect Michael Angeletti (12-0) defeating tricky Geraldo Valdez (16-2) to earn a ten-round unanimous decision victory.
The tall and raw Angeletti had his best moments when he used his natural body to his advantage, keeping the Dominican at range. However, Valdez piled the pressure on the American, using his veteran experience to push Angeletti into an embarrassing exchange.
Angeletti’s clean and efficient work was very appealing to the judges, who awarded Angeletti the unanimous decision win; though, Valdez struggled to see the final bell.
At the ProBox Events Center, Dominic Valle (10-0) was unable to regain his KO victory at super-featherweight, instead giving up a unanimous decision victory over Colombian dynamite Kevin Piedrahita (9-2). .
Despite the loss on his record, all of ‘Dinamita’s wins have come by knockout and Valle must have been well aware of this, choosing to outmaneuver his opponent to win on points. Still, the Floridian looked mature and composed throughout.
Fellow Floridian Tristan Gallichan (5-0-2) earned the second draw of his short career, this time against Cuba’s Renny Viamonte Mastrapa (3-1-1). It was a real 50-50 fight, where the judges found it impossible to separate either person; in the end it comes down to preference.
Gallichan was the aggressor in this strategic battle, Mastrapa showing the skills and bravery of Cuba in spades. As a result, the stock of both fighters has been raised since the beginning, little will hurt their records. Either fighter can appear on a ProBox card again in the future.
Talented but inactive Kazakh heavyweight Ivan Dychko (14-0) wasted no time against Craig Lewis (15-8-1), matching Zhilei Zhang’s (27-2-1) record of two rounds to stop the American.
Lewis has outlasted the likes of Carlos Takam (40-8-1), Junior Fa (20-3) and Jermaine Franklin (23-2), but Dychko has had little time to play with his diet. It was a tough job from the amateur stand-out, who needs to work hard to break into the heavyweight division.
Once again, ProBox has put together a quality card with many names, from those who have been at the top of the sport to the up-and-comers of tomorrow.
