Netflix released another trailer for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Crofta new animated series featuring the voice of Hayley Atwell premiering October 10. Watch:
It is said to be set “following the events of Survivor series,” has been rebooted Tomb Raider a continuation that began in 2013, The Legend of Lara Croft we will see our hero “leaving his friends to embark on an increasingly dangerous journey alone.” However, he must return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with a mysterious connection. His pursuit of courage will take him on a journey around the world and deep into the forgotten tombs, where he will be forced to face his true self, and decide what kind of hero he wants to be.”
So, the first thing you’ll notice about the trailer is that Atwell’s Lara doesn’t actually say anything beyond, “No!”, “Hyaa!,” and “Nnngh!” His supporters and supporters continued to hit him with harsh statements, including, “This is the life you chose. Don’t make the mistakes he did.” Or, “Sometimes I swear you have a death wish.” We also have the song “We’re the same, Miss Croft…” from the main character of the series, and a chorus of voices describing her in negative terms, such as “Misery, death, and destruction.”
It certainly creates a stressful situation. If the series is really about Lara Croft conquering a bunch of asses to reveal herself as a global archaeologist—to “find her voice,” if you will—she’s doing a great job. But as an introduction trailer to the legend-in-the-remaking, it drags a bit.
Although she’s a beloved adventure hero to many, the character of Lara Croft has long faced a lot of criticism since her introduction, both as a gun-toting male legend and a grave-robbing (er, raiding cemeteries) archaeologist. When the brutal, realistic reboot happened in 2013, it put Lara through emotional and physical stress, shifting the focus to her ability to endure a series of horrifically brutal actions (and the equally brutal death scenes that come with their failure as a player). People like to give Lara a hard time. From the looks of the trailer, it seems A legend does it again, putting Lara on trial to face her “true self.”
