A plane with 62 people on board crashes in the Brazilian state of Sao Paolo
BBCA plane carrying 58 passengers and four crew members crashed in the Brazilian state of São Paulo.
The twin-engine turboprop plane was flying from Cascavel in the southern state of Paraná to the main airport in the city of São Paulo when it went down in the city of Vinhedo, airline Voepass said.
Pictures circulating on social media show the plane descending vertically, spinning as it falls.
“There is still no certainty as to how the accident happened or the current condition of the people on board,” the airline said in a statement.
Local authorities said the plane landed on top of a residential building.
Police and firefighters are on the scene and local hospitals have been notified.
The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, held a moment of silence at the event where he was speaking.
He wrote on social media that the news of the accident was “very sad.” All my solidarity with the families and friends of the victims.”
