Berlanga Upset by Canelo’s Smile, Predicts 6th Round KO
Edgar Berlanga says he didn’t like the way Canelo Alvarez had a smile on his face at a press conference in Beverly Hills on Tuesday.
Berlanga Hood’s mind
The challenger, Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs), believes that Canelo’s smile has translated into seeing him as a “joke.” He says if he was in his “hood” in Brooklyn, New York, he would have slapped him in the face.
WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight champion Canelo (61-2-2, 39 KOs) doesn’t see Berlanga as a threat, and neither does anyone else. Berlanga soon realized that he would get better. It’s not personal with Canelo. He is Munguia 2.0 and maybe not so good.
During the press conference, Berlanga was surprised when Canelo said that he will not show him “compassion” in their fight and that he will suffer for eight rounds.
When Canelo said those words, it was like waving a red flag in front of an angry bull because Berlanga immediately got out of his seat, wanting to see the Mexican star. Who knows what Berlanga would have done if there were no security guards? He may have messed up getting “that bag” he’s been talking about endlessly. He sees Canelo as a money tree.
Berlanga’s interpretation of Canelo’s smile
“In the press conference he kept smiling on my face. I don’t like it when people smile. If people are smiling, that means you take me as a joke,” said Edgar Berlanga in the media talking about how Canelo Alvarez was smiling with him.
After all this time, how does Berlanga know why Canelo chose him? He’s the bullpen for this fight, and Canelo will use him for a slew of kills on September 14th unless the Mexican star ages overnight.
Berlanga is not expected to improve his game from what he showed in his recent fights with Padraig McCrory and Jason Quigley.
“I’m from New York. If [someone] I have a smile on my face. I’m from Brooklyn; I’m out of football,” said Berlanga. “If I’m talking to someone and they start laughing at me, that’s disrespectful. If I look at a boyfriend and he starts smiling on my face in New York, I probably would have hit him.”
In other words, you attack them for smiling. Sheesh. I hope that Berlanga will be able to fight Canelo on September 14th without going to jail for beating up smiling people because there will be a lot of them.
“Sixth round,” Berlanga said when asked which round he predicted he would knock out Canelo on September 14. “He’s got a cock. That’s why Mexicans don’t like him. You are a diva. He’s the type of guy where if the side of his shirt isn’t ironed, ‘Oh, my God.’ I don’t like guys like that.”
Berlanga will have to unload on Canelo from the first seconds of the fight to get a shot to knock him out, and that is dangerous for him because he has no chin. Marcelo Esteban Conceres, who is not even close to being a great puncher, has been eliminated. Canelo is at a different level of leverage, and Berlanga will have to be able to land his shots to land the knockout punch.
He didn’t have to say, ‘I will have no mercy.’ That’s what he does,” said Berlanga. “Perhaps Munguia restrained himself. Me, I already know. I’m Puerto Rican, bro. A lot of people don’t like me. So, I already know that you will go in there with bad blood. I’ve already ruined his aura.
“You’re going to see something on September 14, and a guy like him is going to take the best out of me. This is the kind of person I am,” said Berlanga.
Berlanga’s sensitivity
He shouldn’t be bothered by Canelo’s statement that he will have no mercy because those are standard trash talking statements that any fighter can make. Berlanga is one of those people who get angry easily and are proud of themselves.
Those types are not mentally prepared to deal with the give and take involved in building a great war.
