Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis Signals Return Soon “On Way To 33-0”

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis has posted on social media that he plans to return to the ring to win his 33rd title before his next fight.

The undefeated IBF welterweight champion, Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) has not revealed who he will face, but his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has mentioned that he plans to stay at 147 to hold all the titles.

Hearn said he will speak with IBF executive Karen Chukhadzhian about where the fight with Boot will take place. He wants it to be in Philadelphia, where Ennis, 27, draws big crowds at the Well Fargo Center. However, Hearn does not mention the plan if Karen’s supporters reject the idea and insist on placing it in Germany.

Despite the high praise Hearn gave Ennis, he surprisingly lost his latest purse bid due to his commitment to the Karen fight. Some felt that Hearn would not have lost the kind of money his boxer, Anthony Joshua, was defending.

It’s no surprise that Ennis will stay at 147 because he gets hit a lot, and those ranked at 154 can be dangerous for him. He had a tough time defeating slugger Roiman Villa last year in July, taking heavy shots throughout the fight until he knocked him out in the tenth round.

Even in Boot Ennis’ last fight against David Avanesyan, he was heavily punished before knocking him out in the sixth. Moving up to 154 would be dangerous for Ennis because he might not have the same results.

We just saw how vulnerable Terence Crawford looked going up to 154 last August in Los Angeles. Obviously, some of that was Crawford’s age and inactivity, but he was more concerned about the strength and size of his opponent. Ennis would face similar problems if he moved up to 154. He won’t have to worry about power in his next fight with Karen, who hits hard, moves a lot in the ring.
