This past summer, movie fans mourned the death of 75-year-old actress Shelley Duvall. That movie Forest Hills, just dropped its first trailer ahead of its early October release. In this film, Chiko Mendez plays the role of Rico, a resident of the Catskill Mountains who has been hit in the head and ends up having strange and terrifying visions that he can’t get out of his head. Eventually, his friend Billy (Edward Furlong) gets it into Rico’s head that he might actually be turning into a werewolf, and that he might not be the only one that’s happened to him. While grappling with the idea of that, Rico must face his past, especially his strained relationship with his mother, played by Duvall.
Originally, Duvall was only meant to appear in a small flashback cameo, a la Pamela Voorhees in the beginning. Friday the 13th. But as writer/director Scott Goldberg said, he talked about working with other actors on camera, so his role was strengthened because of that. “To finally be able to work with Shelley and be there in person, and actually make a movie with her — she’s kind, sweet, gentle, and an amazing actress,” he recalls. “Shelley was an amazing actress to work with, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to direct her.”
Forest Hills will hit select theaters on October 4, followed by streaming on October 8.
