Developer Remedy Entertainment is well known as a cult classic Alan Wake and its usual beat Take control. About a year later Alan Wake II became an awards darling, the studio is making moves for both its supernatural series: bringing them to the silver and small screen.
On Thursday, the studio revealed that it was working with Annapurna on a two-part deal. As part of that partnership, Annapurna has exclusive rights to both Alan again Take control of “new forms of entertainment,” including film and TV. Annapurna also promises to cover 50% of Remedy’s development costs Control 2: the studio receives a large share of the revenue from its game (after costs are recouped), while Annapurna will take a large portion of the revenue from the final fix. It doesn’t sound like any Hollywood studio or creative partners are off the hook for those leads, but Annapurna CEO Megan Ellison said their deal with Remedy will allow them to “push the boundaries of how stories are told and experienced across languages.”
Meanwhile, Remedy’s CEO, Tero Virtala, said the partnership marks a “milestone” for the developer. And to help Control 2 see the light of day, Annapurna’s involvement helps her self-publish any projects she chooses. “This is… an exciting opportunity for us,” added Virtala. “We know Annapurna shares our passion for our IPs and the world we’ve created. […] Their expertise in all things film, TV, and video games makes them the perfect partner for us. “
The remedy tried to do i Alan Wake show back in 2018 to no avail, but this Annapurna deal marks its first Take control. Due to the expansion of that game, the studio has already created two franchises that are part of the shared universe. However that plays in film and television (and which game is adapted to which method), everything comes in the present Remedy.
