Andre Dirrell lashed out at Devin Haney on social media for impersonating and copying Floyd Mayweather Jr and his bodyguards in hero worship.
Haney’s Poser Behavior
2004 Olympic bronze medalist Dirrell says Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) needs to stop copying Floyd Mayweather Jr. and walking around with bodyguards. Dirrell sees Haney’s use of bodyguards as a sign that he is such a self-righteous person that he takes over his lifestyle.
Haney has already been criticized for copying Tank Davis’ look with baggy dresses and gold jewelry. It’s like a kid dressing up for Halloween. Haney dresses as Tank.
Some fans see this as Haney hoping that by copying Tank, he can become a star outside the ring without needing to do his job. In other words, the borrowed look could be a gimmick for Haney to draw out Tank fans without needing to entertain the way he does by drawing out his opposition.
Dirrell feels that Haney has to improve his skills because Gervonta Davis is going to destroy him, and he says he understands why he doesn’t want to get in the ring with Shakur Stevenson. The basics just aren’t there for Haney.
The answer comes from Haney
Haney responded to Dirrell, telling him to “get out of the rich people’s business.” Bringing money to it was Haney’s way of dealing with Dirrell’s criticism of him. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Dirrell is richer than Haney, with an estimated net worth of $8 million compared to his $6 million.
“Devin, you’ve been trying to be Floyd for a long time, man. I’ll say it,” said Andre Dirrell on X yelling at Devin Haney for what he believes is copying Floyd Mayweather Jr., trying to match the former star. “You have your bodyguards in the gym. Ain’t nobody trying to come up to you in the gym, man.
“He’s running around with security guards in the gym and stuff, trying to project an image. I always hated that. I’m not knocking you. I’m just saying he’s trying to play Floyd Mayweather and you’re nowhere near his level. Then it’s like, you’re trying to move forward in your power? That’s my question, or you’re trying to paint a picture [i.e., being a poser]? There is a big difference.”
It would hurt if Haney tried to cheat Mayweather by idolizing him. Traveling with expensive bodyguards when you don’t need them is a waste of time and money. If Haney were a billionaire or a politician, it would be understandable for him to impersonate Floyd with bodyguards for round-the-clock surveillance like Elvis Presley.
Dirrell doubts Haney’s abilities
“He did so. I learned a lot from Devin. Now is the time to make changes when all the schools have happened, when you get stuck, when you have to deal with this until the next time you fight. If it’s not a big name [LOL],” said Dirrell.
This week there was talk of Haney possibly coming back to face IBF light welterweight champion Liam Paro in December. However, promoter Eddie Hearn did not sound too optimistic about the Haney vs. Paro that happened when he was asked about it.
“I’ll tell you what everybody said last night, everybody. “I was the only one who said it and the only one who heard it because I thought it was the second round,” said Dirrell. “There’s no way in hell you see Thange, man. A tank will kill [sic] you, dog. I can see why you come from that man.”
It’s clear that Tank Davis will finish what Ryan Garcia started when he fights Haney, but that combination will not happen. Haney is too big to fight at 135, and Tank won’t move up to 140 to make things easy for him.
“I can see why you don’t want to stand up to Shakur. I see. Your foundations are gone. There are none, brother,” said Dirrell referring to Haney.
