Pegula Beats Kenin In Second Round Of All-American US Open

Jessica Pegula of Buffalo, New York, has been hitting the ground running this summer. He defended his title in WTA 1000 event in Toronto (d. Anisimova) and reached the final on time WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati (l. Sabalenka). A thirty-year-old woman has reached a career high #3 in the middle 2022 and is currently ranked sixth.

Pegula, one of the favorites to win the last slam of the season, raised his level to defeat a worthy opponent; another American and grand slam champion. Sofia Kenin, only twenty-five years old, won the Australian Open in 2020 and in that season reached a career high of #4.

Pegula hit an ace and tied the break 3-2 while Kenin missed 4/8 first it gave and contributed four unforced errors, the last a double error to throw out the performance.

Pegula, feeding off the power of a field full of Louis Armstrong, hit two winners including an ace up the tee to consolidate the break and lead. 5-2. Kenin, who was working to stay in the match, opened with a stunning backhand down the line and held on 15 for 3-5.

Pegula opened the ninth with his fifth ace and in the sixth, he secured the match, set and match. Kenin played at an extremely high level for most of the first set but was eliminated in the second.

Pegula won 65First % once 54% of secondary supply points and 41First % once 56% of return points given second. You have saved 4/7 points break while converting 4/7 and hit twenty-three winners on seventeen unforced errors. It was a confident performance from an exceptional hardcourt competitor.
