Pegula defeated Kenin 7-6, 6-3
Jessica Pegula of Buffalo, New York, has been hitting the ground running this summer. He defended his title in WTA 1000 event in Toronto (d. Anisimova) and reached the final on time WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati (l. Sabalenka). A thirty-year-old woman has reached a career high #3 in the middle 2022 and is currently ranked sixth.
Pegula, one of the favorites to win the last slam of the season, raised his level to defeat a worthy opponent; another American and grand slam champion. Sofia Kenin, only twenty-five years old, won the Australian Open in 2020 and in that season reached a career high of #4.
He has struggled the past few years with injuries, illness, and changes to his team and as a result, is currently ranked #.54. Lead the heads 2-1splitting hard court matches and winning on clay. All three went a long way, and ended up competing against each other 2021.
Kenin did not advance 4one round when Pegula arrived at the scene 2022. Kenin worked first and had three outstanding winners, who were easily caught 15 while Pegula contributed three unforced errors, including a double fault and a dropped serve.

Kenin opened the third with two consecutive unforced errors and two more, including a double fault, brought the break back. Pegula made 4/6 he first served and was caught 30 combining break and rank.
Kenin was gifted three consecutive unforced errors including another double fault and dropped serve while Pegula made two errors and got a break back when Kenin crushed the forecourt.
Kenin opened the seventh with two front-runners in a row and although he gave up another double fault, it held 30 for 4-3. Pegula faced 0-30 and a double break point but held with an ace up the tee and an unreturnable serve.
Kenin continued to introduce the floor and ordered a play. He hit three winners and held on easily 15 for 5-4. Pegula who works to stay on set, misses out 3/4 in the first he worships but is caught in love to a degree.
Kenin did 3/5 he first served and was caught 15 for 6-5 backhand crosscourt swing volley winner. Pegula had to hold to force the interception. After winning a 21-shot rally to open the twelfth, he closed with an ace out wide.
Kenin won the first breaker point with a terrible shot but as the unforced errors continued to mount, he conceded. 4-7 with a crooked hand.
Pegula served first for the second time. He surrendered a double fault, faced a break point, and dropped serve when Kenin crossed a forehand down the line. He opened with a double fault, faced three deuces and a double break point but fought back to consolidate the break with a wide ace and a monster high serve.
Pegula hit two forehands in a row to get on the board while Kenin ate new balls, served three unforced errors, and dropped serve. Pegula hit an ace and tied the break 3-2 while Kenin missed 4/8 first it gave and contributed four unforced errors, the last a double error to throw out the performance.
Pegula, feeding off the power of a field full of Louis Armstrong, hit two winners including an ace up the tee to consolidate the break and lead. 5-2. Kenin, who was working to stay in the match, opened with a stunning backhand down the line and held on 15 for 3-5.
Pegula opened the ninth with his fifth ace and in the sixth, he secured the match, set and match. Kenin played at an extremely high level for most of the first set but was eliminated in the second.
Pegula won 65First % once 54% of secondary supply points and 41First % once 56% of return points given second. You have saved 4/7 points break while converting 4/7 and hit twenty-three winners on seventeen unforced errors. It was a confident performance from an exceptional hardcourt competitor.
Next, it’s a NextGen player from Spain. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro just twenty-one, she has achieved the top position #74. In the opening round, he sent the previous world #14 Petra Martic and finally, the 31st seed, Katie Boulter. This will be their first tour-level meeting with a spot in the sixteenth round on the line.
