After more than two months of testing and discussions, NASA has decided that astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams will return home in February 2025 aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon, and the Boeing Starliner they flew to the International Space Station in June will return unmanned. At a press conference on Saturday, Steve Stich, manager of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, said there was “a lot of uncertainty” about the predictions of those pushing the Starliner to proceed with the return flight.
“The decision to keep Butch and Suni aboard the International Space Station and bring the Boeing Starliner home without a crew is a result of our commitment to safety,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.
