How Self-Awareness Can Unleash Young Opportunities – Global Issues
NEW YORK, Aug 22 (IPS) – Imagine a world where every young person has the tools they need to succeed, regardless of their age, place of residence, race, college title, or career title. A world where dreams have no limits, and energy has no limits.
People often find themselves trying to fit in a piece of the puzzle where they don’t belong as the very definition of success is laid out in a few goals one may feel obligated to achieve such as going to that top school, getting the right internship, and succeeding. at those networking events and get the perfect job – but what happens when someone wants to take the path to their own path?
Self-awareness leads to your behavior
There is a lot of focus on the important aspect of more inclusion in the youth as they are the future leaders of tomorrow, but why not equip them to be the leaders of today?
By understanding ourselves—our thoughts, feelings, strengths, weaknesses, values, and motivations—we build a foundation of belief in our ability to achieve our goals. Opportunities are everywhere, but the question is how often do we know where and when to grab them?
On average, it has been seen that some people in the first 5-7 years after graduation seem to move around a lot in their careers. To help young people achieve their true aspirations, instilling courage, building resilience, and developing self-awareness through effective career mapping tools, authentic mentoring, and making resources and platforms more accessible to them can have a profound impact on shaping their journey.
When young people are equipped with this knowledge, they can make informed decisions about their future, choosing paths that lead to real fulfillment rather than marking another marker on a predefined list of what others tell them to follow, and that is where the truth lies. to arm the lie.
Pathways to Success
It becomes very difficult to stay focused and reflect on what you really want in a world full of endless possibilities, waking up to the ever changing changes. The art of staying focused, focused and aligned with your desires can lead to successful career paths, where young people will be able to emerge as true change makers in their fields.
This disconnection between one’s goals and chosen path can lead to frustration, burnout, and a sense of unfulfilled potential that leads to a large proportion of young people straying from where their true potential lies and giving up sooner than expected.
By allowing open dialogue, effective mentoring, providing diverse exposure and encouraging self-reflection can have a profound impact and empower a young person to rise and become their true self.
Redefining norms:
As the secretary-general said earlier during the international youth day how important it is to make the youth more involved in all aspects of decision-making and that the development of skills with the right tools and knowledge is the way to achieve impact. Over the past decade, the word empowerment has seen increasing importance and emphasis. Now is the time to redefine what we mean by empowerment and do we really use it or leave it as another check mark on the path to inclusion.
Accept the Detour
Taking that one step forward has always been very difficult, as it carries the weight of expectation, fear of failure, fear of missing out and the constant chants of what will people think? Between moving forward and staying in the current situation is what really shapes the future.
As John Green said “It’s hard to walk until you walk and it’s the easiest thing in the world”. Normalizing deviance and encouraging young people to challenge the status quo is what really empowers them, rather than just giving them the ability to make decisions and choices but with the same colored balls in a box to choose from.
As we look towards building an inclusive, innovative, peaceful and hopeful society ahead of us, we must acknowledge the fact that young people are no longer waiting for a seat at the table, rather they are making their own tables to bring about real change. it will not be reserved for the few, but for all and to empower the youth.
