A hacking campaign that the FBI believes is linked to Iran has targeted members of the Trump and Harris campaigns as they seek to be elected president of the United States later this year. While bad actors were reportedly trying to trick several advisers to the Biden-Harris and Trump campaigns, The Washington Post he specifically singled out senior Trump adviser Susie Wiles as one of the targets.

Google recently published a report detailing how an Iranian government-backed threat actor called APT42 has been targeting high-profile users in Israel and the US for years. It also confirmed that its threat analysis team continued to “detect unsuccessful attempts from APT42 to compromise the personal accounts of individuals connected to President Biden, Vice President Harris and former President Trump, including current and former government officials and individuals associated with the campaigns.” Apparently the company has had to thwart multiple attempts by hackers to break into employee email accounts.
Investigators say Roger Stone, an informal adviser to Trump, was the victim of phishing emails sent by Iranian hackers who had control of his account and sent messages with phishing links to other people. Authorities reportedly found no evidence that the hackers compromised anyone’s account at the Harris camp.
The Feds have accused Iran and Russia of spreading false information related to the 2020 US Presidential Election four years ago.
