An iPad-like tablet device, reported by Apple to take on the Echo Show and Nest Hub-style touchscreen devices, is still possible. In accordance with Bloombergit could start as soon as 2026, with a thin robotic arm circling a giant display. In my mind, it will look like a piece of technology from the mid-00s, like something from The portal or Me, Robot.
Rumors suggest that it can tilt the screen up and down using actuators and rotate 360 degrees. This suggests it could tap into Apple’s DockKit software to track users as they move around their homes for video calls and more. Hundreds of Apple employees are now said to be working on the tabletop system, and it is apparently closely linked to Apple Intelligence tools and Siri.
However, there are (understandable) concerns about whether buyers will really want this, especially since the price may hover around $1,000. Please, Apple: Just make it removable like the Pixel Tablet. Please?

The spring reorganization caused a long-term headache for everyone. And me.
I love that my colleague Billy Steele wrote this. I’m currently struggling to re-sync my Sonos Beam with my TV and I think I’m going crazy. I wasn’t there. Following a major update back in the spring, the Sonos app was very broken and missing a function key. It lacked basic features, such as sleep timers and alarms. Some users have also reported not being able to rearrange the speakers, the speakers working intermittently and trouble completing other basic tasks. Some say they can’t load the app reliably. I experienced many of these. Sonos has a clear plan for how it intends to fix the problem, but there’s no word on how long that will take.

It is even more difficult to understand what is happening on Facebook and Instagram.
Meta shut down CrowdTangle, an analytics tool that helped tens of thousands of researchers, journalists, and community groups figure out how information was spreading on Facebook and Instagram. The company has launched a Meta Content Library, but it’s more tightly controlled than CrowdTangle. There is a vetting process, and although tens of thousands of people have had access to CrowdTangle, only “a few hundred” researchers have reportedly been admitted to the Meta Content Library. Journalists are not eligible.
The time will not be too bad; Meta shut down CrowdTangle less than three months before the US presidential election despite pressure from election groups and a letter from lawmakers asking for a delay.

The latest game, Outlast Trials, is a disaster for developers.
Bedroom inside Extreme Trials it is named after a real-life location at McGill University’s Allan Memorial Institute in Montreal, where from 1957 to 1964, doctors performed mind-control experiments on patients as part of the CIA’s MK-Ultra program. It included electroshock therapy, anesthesia and heavy doses of psychedelic drugs.
As with all Red Barrels games, Extreme Trials takes dark and true stories. A brand new horror game for four players where participants must ‘graduate’ to the cure by completing objectives and surviving villains. The gameplay mainly involves running and hiding from deranged sadists. It’s time to be scared again, but this time with your friends.
