In the ’90s A journey series to find their proverbial flowers in the revival of the broadcast franchise, Deep Space Nine it was undoubtedly a show that, as it was in the ’90s, he was considered an underdog. With a nod here and there, and a few words back and forth Lower Decksit’s not completely out of the question, but it’s not quite on the same level as things like it Star Trek: Picard it gets bigger The Next Generation to follow, or The Prodigy to be a gift of love to Voyager and Captain Janeway’s legacy in particular. But if Paramount Star Trek the future would include some form Deep Space Nine love letter, maybe don’t include an appearance by Miles O’Brien among the shows.
“I think seven years in a space suit was enough, you know?” Colm Meaney, who played Chief O’Brien TNG then in all the seven periods of DS9recently appeared in an interview with Sci-Fi & Fantasy Gazette. “I’m often asked that question, and you never say it, but, first of all, I’m not going to qualify for it anymore… I remember people saying at the time that Voyager he went, ‘How often can you go to the well? How many times can you fix this?’”
The answer is A journeyThe story has been ‘a lot’ over the past few decades, with more to come, as Meaney continues to acknowledge. “They did it successfully with Star Trek and they still do. I wish them luck,” continued the actor, before revealing that he might return to the competition. “Want to see old Miles O’Brien? I don’t know. It’s definitely not at the top of my agenda right now.”
Meaney may underestimate the ambitions of Star Trek fandom there-especially DS9fans, as we said, never had the same kind of reference revival A journey‘s relatively modern era TNG again Voyager. There is certainly something to be gained from revisiting the world of DS9 and seeing the continuing impact the Dominion War has had on its characters over the years since the game. Something in the vein of that PicardThe first season wanted to try to do (before it took meddling with being a hero at the end) and those left behind DS9The ending can be a real treat, especially since, for all the revisiting of that period of the 24th century of the ’90s. A journeymodern Star Trek material has largely avoided doing much in the “modern” setting of the franchise in the early 25th century.
But alas, if we can go there DS9 throw, we probably won’t get to do that with one of them A journeythe most popular (and highly ranked) senior engineers. Maybe he just retired with Keiko and spent his days being a holodeck-tabletop wargamer and decided not to get into that whole synth revolution/Borg resurgence/living business building fiasco.
