Charles Conwell (20-0, 15 KOs) destroyed veteran Khyary Gray (18-7, 13 KOs) by knockout in the second round of the middleweight title in a scheduled ten-round bout.

154-lb contender Conwell nailed Gray, 31, with two left hooks to the body that dropped him to the canvas. Gray was too injured to get back on his feet. The competition was then stopped.

Gray hadn’t done much before the end of the fight, other than take the 26-year-old Conwell’s gun. It was another exhibition fight for him.

Hopefully, Golden Boy will start matching Conwell up against quality opponents soon because these types of mismatches are not helping him.

– Light welterweight contender Kenneth Sims (21-2-1, 7 KOs) defeated former IBF super bantamweight champion Jonathan Romero (35-5, 19 KOs) by fifth round stoppage. It was a practice run for Sims, 30, who presented at will against the 37-year-old Romero.

Despite the one-sided fight, tough Colombian Romero was lighting Sims up striking easily with quick combinations, using his aggression.

Sims hurt Romerto with a third body shot and put him down with a gun in the fourth round. Romero’s corner wanted to stop the fight after the fourth round, but he wanted to continue. After the fifth round, the fight was finally stopped.

– IBF Flyweight World Champion Gabriela Fundora (14-0, 6 KOs) won a ten-round unanimous decision over challenger Daniela Asenjo (16-4-3, 2 KOs). The scores were 100-90, 100-90, and 100-90.

The 5’9″ tall Fundora took advantage of his great height and reached the chair to dominate with hooks, jabs, and uppercuts throughout the fight. Asenjo, 33, could not do much because of his limited height.

While outside, Fundira nailed him at will with long shots. Asenjo’s success was limited when he went forward, throwing wild punches but occasionally catching Fundora. He could have taken advantage of Fundira’s aggressive style if he had more power.

On the ninth, Fundora went to hit the ground and put him on the ground, firing shots but most of them missed.

– Welterweight prospect Joel Iriarte (4-0, 4 KOs) made quick work of Miguel Ortiz (3-2, 1 KO), knocking him out in the first round. Iriate hurt Ortiz with a long left hook to the head, sending him crashing into the ropes. Iriate followed with a flurry of punches, prompting the referee, Michel Ortega, to wave him off. The stoppage time was 2:15 in the first round.

Vergil Jr. (21-0, 21 KOs) wants to use Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KOs) as a way to get a more lucrative fight with Terence Crawford, Sebastian Fundora, Errol Spence or Tim Tszyu. Ortiz Jr. is talking about wanting to fight at the 80,000-seat Dallas Cowboys stadium in Arlington, Texas. To do that, he needs Crawford or Spence.
