Rings of Power Consist of Heavy Metal

There has long been an overlap between fans of heavy metal and the works of JRR Tolkien, with The Lord of the Rings provides direct inspiration for Black Sabbath, Rush, Led Zeppelin, and many other bands. Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power leans into this connection wholeheartedly, with a new video featuring the ear-splittingly beautiful song of the upcoming second season.

Check out composer Bear McCreary gushing about “Ballad of Damrod,” a Hill-Troll “song” (it can’t get much more metal than that) featuring drummer Gene Hoglan—who also featured Rush legend Neil Peart on cymbals. in his kit as part of the recording process.

“Ballad of Damrod” also features the vocal stylings of Meshuggah’s Jens Kidman, who is originally from Sweden but clearly has a touch of Middle-earth in his blood.

You can listen to the whole song on Spotify; turn that volume up as much as the Hill-Troll would like.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season two hits Prime Video August 29.
