OpenAI CEO Sam Altman denies allegations of sexual harassment by his sister

ChatGPT creator Sam Altman’s sister, Ann Altman, has filed a lawsuit alleging that he repeatedly sexually assaulted her between 1997 and 2006.

The lawsuit, which was filed on January 6 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, says the abuse began when he was three years old and Mr. Altman was 12 years old.

Mr Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the company behind the Artificial Intelligence (AI) software ChatGPT, denied the allegations. in a joint statement to X and his mother and two brothers.

“All these allegations are completely untrue,” the statement said. “Caring for a family member who is dealing with mental health challenges is very difficult,” he added.

Mr Altman said he gives his sister monthly financial support, pays her bills and rent, and has offered to buy her a house, but Annie “continues to demand more money from us”.

But Ms Altman says he “groomed and manipulated her” and carried out sexual acts on her over a number of years, including “rape, sexual assault, molestation, sleeping and sleeping”, according to a court file seen by the BBC.

Ms Altman said she suffered “extensive bodily harm”, severe emotional distress and depression.

He also added that he received a lot of medical bills due to medical and psychiatric treatment due to his injuries.

“Over the years, we have tried many ways to support Annie and help her find stability,” Mr Altman said, adding that he had taken “professional advice” on “how to support her” without “enabling destructive behaviour”.

“This situation is causing great pain to our entire family,” the statement said.

The lawsuit added that the last incident of alleged abuse occurred when Mr. Altman was an adult and a minor.

Ms. Altman has made similar allegations about her brother on social media platforms such as X.

Billionaire Mr Altman, who married his partner Oliver Mulherin in 2024, is one of the world’s highest-profile figures in technology.

Towards the end of 2022, OpenAI launched ChatGPT which generates an AI chatbot. It is widely used all over the world to be used as a variety learning to flirtcoordinating emails, recipes, and helping students with their homework. It can also write computer code to create websites in minutes.

In 2024, Mr. Altman returned as the manager of OpenAI in a few days he was fired by the boardwho survived the coup attempt.
