The Palisades Fire in Los Angeles, California has prompted mandatory evacuations as thick smoke hangs over the region.
Officials say the fire grew from 20 hectares to more than 200 hectares in about 20 minutes after it was reported around 10:30 local time.
The increase was fueled by a strong wind event that put much of the country under a red flag warning.
