At least 28 dead in South Korean plane crash

A plane carrying 181 people has crashed at an airport in South Korea, killing at least 28 people, Yonhap news agency reported.

The plane skidded off the runway and crashed into a wall at the Muan International Airport in the country’s southwest, South Korea’s state news agency reported.

The Jeju Air plane, which was carrying 175 passengers and six flight attendants, was reportedly flying back from Bangkok in Thailand and the accident occurred during landing.

One person was found alive as rescue operations continued, according to Yonhap.

Emergency services were trying to rescue people in the tail of the plane, an airline official told Reuters news agency.

The cause of the accident is unclear, but the bird strike may have caused a mechanical malfunction, Yonhap reported.
