Microsoft has begun rolling out a feature that allows file sharing between iPhones and Windows PCs to users in its Windows Insider program. This functionality makes it easy to transfer files between the two devices, targeting a common pain point for iPhone and Windows users.
To access the feature, users need the latest versions of the relevant apps. Specifically, the Phone Link the operating system on Windows must be updated to version 1.24112.73 or more, too Connect to Windows the app on the iPhone must be on version 1.24112.89.0 or higher. In addition, users must have an iPhone running iOS 16 or later.
File transfer from iPhone to Windows PC is straightforward. Users navigate to the file they want on their iPhone, click the share icon, and select the “Connect to Windows” option. Then they select the target device to complete the process. To transfer files from Windows PC to iPhone, users right-click the file they want, select “Share,” and then click “My Phone” to start the transfer.
This new capability is available through Phone Link app, formerly known as your phone, including communication and file sharing between Windows PCs and mobile devices. By extending this functionality to iPhones, Microsoft aims to improve the compatibility and user experience of its ecosystem.
The release is currently limited to members of the Windows Insider program, a group that tests early features and updates. Wider availability of the feature has not yet been announced but it represents a step towards seamless integration between Apple and Windows platforms.
