Sony’s Spider-Man Universe—as far as being a place where a series of films of dubious quality featuring characters close to Spider-Man are not allowed to acknowledge that they are, indeed, related to Spider-Man—is dead. Long live Sony’s Spider-Man Universe? The cinematic half-universe formerly known as SPUMC breathes a sigh of relief with the release of Kraven the Hunter this week, as the studio wants to refocus on the webslinger more than anyone loosely related to him can get their hands on. But that didn’t stop The Kraven from dropping hooks on possible futures… all wrapped up in the most infamous builder in Spidey comic history.
It seems that Sony has never been successful in its efforts to stage a Sinister Six movie. As The Kraven enters its third act, it is revealed that Rhino (Alessandro Nivola) was given his amazing enhancements by a mysterious New York doctor, and that in the end, Kraven’s younger brother Dimitri (Fred Hechinger) went to the same mysterious person to give. he is the transformative force that makes him the Chameleon in the comics. When that doctor came in unseen The KravenRhino names him when he tries to get Dimitri to go down the way he did: Miles Warren.
Who is Miles Warren?
Also known as the Jackal, Miles Warren was a renowned biochemist who taught at Empire State University. Obsessed with the idea of bringing people together, Warren puts his obsession into action for another reason: his love interest in one of his students, Gwen Stacy. When Gwen was killed by the Green Goblin, Warren blamed Spider-Man for failing to save her, going down the rabbit hole of using genetic samples taken from him and one of his students, Peter Parker, to try to create human clones. When he found out that Peter was really Spider-Man in the process, Miles created his first two clones: the first of Gwen was known as Abby-L, a very evil figure that affects living beings so much that they begin to deteriorate quickly. Warren intended to kill Abby, horrified by his failure, but Abby begged him to let her live, to stop her efforts to unite to avoid anyone like her from being made. Warren ignored that, and went on a second quest when he left her: Peter’s partner, who suffered from cell degeneration but escaped Miles’ attempts to get rid of her, taking the name… Kaine Parker.
Of course, as you might have guessed at this point, Miles Warren is the villain who rises after the most infamous Spider-Man story ever written: the Clone Saga. Discovering the identity of the Jackal—a green, hairy goblin creature—after insanely murdering his lab partner, Miles went on the run and spent months trying to perfect the art of cloning, all the while preparing what he thought was revenge on Peter. Parker. After a series of failed attempts at revenge, Miles began his biggest plan. Using his partner to fake his death, Miles created his latest partner for Peter, who would make himself the name Ben Reilly, in an attempt to convince the real Peter that he was living a lie as a real “real” person. “Spider-man. This event lasted for three years, and it ended up as if Ben had died.
While Miles would go on to have a few more lines to send the Clone Saga—especially “Spider-Island” in 2011—he recently played a major role in the return of Ben Reilly during the events of the 2016 “Clone Conspiracy” event. There, Miles was able to successfully revive Ben in a process that gave him all of his past memories until his death decades earlier during the Clone Saga, only for Ben to take his powers and even his identity as the Jackal, setting his sights on Peter. by using Miles’ cloning technology to revive the dead, almost bringing a dark apocalyptic future in the process. Both Ben and Miles survived the events of The Clone Conspiracy, only to be separated again, leaving Miles to appear as the main villain of this year’s first arc. The Spectacular Spider-Man series, where he kills his brother Raymond Warren and takes his place, hoping to continue his fusion research.
What Miles Warren meant to Sony Spider Man Movies?
Well, now? Nothing. We probably won’t see anyone picking up threads again The Kraven placed, unless they are re-purposed somewhere down the line as an excuse to give us two Toms Hollands in a direct Spidey movie. Miles, like Rhino and Chameleon, may join more than six potential candidates for Sony’s regular Sinister Six movie plans. But setting the stage for Miles to be the architect of all this doesn’t just set the stage for the Sinister Six, of course: Jackal is a super villain in his own right and sets the stage for the most infamous Spider-Man comic saga of all time. Hell, he even gave us multiple Spider-Men in the form of Kaine Parker and Ben Reilly, really letting Sony have their Spider-Cake and eat it if they wanted to make more Spider-Man movies that weren’t already included. The MCU iteration of Peter Parker.
But that’s all off the table again, as the studio is retooling its Spidey slate for, well, Spider-Man. Time will tell if The KravenThe legacy will be in setting the stage for Miles to transition into the MCU at some point or, more likely, provide a bittersweet final note to this uneven era of filmmaking at Sony.
