Andy Ruiz Jr. and Jarrell Miller struggled more than expected today in their first weigh-in before today’s official ceremony at 9 pm PT in Los Angeles.
The weights for these two super-sized heavyweights are disappointing because they are both very heavy, and it is impossible to see them as a potential opponent for a world title shot.

Ruiz’s Weight Raises Red Flags
Ruiz’s weight is the highest since his loss to Anthony Joshua in their rematch in December 2019. He weighed 283 lbs in that fight and was too heavy to carry around the ring to get to Joshua.
Andy was living the good life with $10 million in cash from his two fights against AJ, and he failed to put in the effort to step away from the kitchen table to lose weight.
In Ruiz’s last fight two years ago against Luis Ortiz on September 4, 2022, he weighed in at 268 lbs and did not score a 12-round decision against the 43-year-old. Ruiz’s weight factored into that fight, and he’s even heavier now.
Miller’s Claims Are Short
For his part, Miller (26-1-1, 22 KOs) said he has lost 40+ lbs during camp from the 333 lbs he weighed in due to his loss to Daniel Dubois last December. Miller is down 27.4 lbs from 40, which could make a difference because 305 is still too much weight for him to walk around the ring Saturday night against Ruiz.
What is surprising is that both heavyweights came in hard because they were talking about the hard work they were doing in the camp and they were in good shape. The weight does not reflect that.

Jarrell Miller: “100%. You know what it’s like to have your hand raised and get a championship belt. I do not know yet. So, I still want that fun. I still want that feeling, and the hunger inside me is even stronger now. I am 35 years old. It’s life or death.”
