Although we’ve seen Superman stories on the big screen—and the small screen—many times before, including the latest iteration, there’s still a lot of excitement for James Gunn’s upcoming film. Not only is the writer-director the new leader of DC Studios, his track record is full of fun and exciting projects, including Guardians of the Galaxy a trilogy. If only someone could make a movie with the title Superman he feels new, Gunn—but he’s well aware that his 2025 release is treading familiar territory.
However, I might say More to know how you are Superman it’s different from all the other Man of Steel adventures that have come before. Speaking with Josh Horowitz at Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn explained what will separate his superhero story from the pack.
“I don’t think we’ve ever seen a science fiction, Silver Age Superman features that we have in our movie,” he told the manager. “And we’ve never seen … you’ll see when the movie comes out, but we’ve never seen this part of Superman’s life.”
That goes for the villain, too. “I don’t think we’ve seen Lex yet [Luthor] that [Nicholas Hoult] is something. Nick is amazing. He goes, ‘Whoa, Superman!’ That’s something we’ve never seen, not in a movie. Sometimes in the comics you go, ‘Oh, Superman is screwed,’ because Lex is so smart and so good at what he does. But in the movies, you’ll say, ‘Lex is about to be kidnapped.’ …We have a big Superman and a tall Lex, too, [and] you see now that Lex is not someone you want to stand up to.”
