Shakur Stevenson Ignores Critics, Picks Schofield for Next Title Defense
Floyd Schofield posted on social media that he has secured a contract and it’s a “Done” to fight Shakur Stevenson next.
We are still waiting for Turki Alalshikh, Matchroom and Golden Boy to confirm that Shakur vs. Schofield was signed on February 22. Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) revealed on Saturday that he has signed him. Today, you sent a private message, “Baby food,” apparently referring to the 22-year-old Schofield.
Shakur’s phone
2016 Olympic silver medalist Shakur seems happy because this is his child, the young man he wanted. For obvious reasons, Stevenson showed no interest in fighting Andy Cruz or giving Edwin De Los Santos a rematch. He knows his limitations. Barring Shakur’s injury, Schofield is a safe pick with no real chance to win.
Some fans were hoping that Honorable Turki would oppose Shakur’s idea of defending against the novice Schofield and insist that Stevenson fight Andy Cruz or Raymond Muratalla. That would have prevented this abomination from happening.
Excited Fans
If the battle of Stevenson vs. Schofield is announced, it could end badly for Kid Austin, leaving him, Oscar De La Hoya, Shakur, and the fans looking like fools. I say fans because most of them will be talking about the Shakur-Kid Austin fight, believing that it will be a contest, they will be unhappy if it is not.
Schofield and his father, Floyd Sr., have been driving the process, pushing hard for Shakur’s fight. They sound confident of victory despite the complete lack of Kid Austin. He looked awful in his last fight against second division fighter Rene Tellez Giron on November 2. Fans believe Schofields is dry. They know that payday will be good.
People wouldn’t mind Schofield fighting Newark, New Jersey native Shakur for his WBC 135-lb title if he at least proved himself against some of his competitors, which he failed to do.
Would it be too much to ask for Kid Austin to beat two or three of these talents?
- Andy Cruz
- Raymond Muratalla
- Abdullah Mason
- William Zepeda
- Berinchky denies it

“I told you… Thank you for being a man of your word. Now let’s have a big fight,” Floyd Schofield told X, reacting to the news that Shakur Stevenson had signed a contract. “We got a contract…a deal was made💪🏽”
I signed the contract today but I believe everything I see on social media who knows what I can do is my part and I will believe it when I see it 🤷🏾♂️

“I know I’m going to be able to beat Shakur, and I’ve seen Floyd fight a little bit, and he’s a very aggressive fighter,” said Jamaine Ortiz at Fighthype, regarding his belief that Floyd Schofield will beat Shakur. Stevenson.
“I saw him lose his last fight, and he was able to get back up and finish it,” Jamaine said of Schofield’s last bout against Rene Tellez Giron on Nov. 2. “If he fights hard and puts pressure on Shakur, I think he can do very well and win the fight. I think Floyd can take him.”
