WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis will meet Lamont Roach next Tuesday, December 3, at their press conference that will begin discussing their big fight that will take place on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The two fighters will fight at PBC on Prime Video PPV.
Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) and Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs_) were originally scheduled to fight on December 14th at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, but due to venue issues, it was postponed to March. 1st.
The pay-per-view price has not been revealed, but it is likely to be similar to $75 with Gervonta’s last title defense against Frank Martin on June 15.
That’s an inflated price if the undercard isn’t loaded with big names. Fans who see great cards filled with big names for Riyadh Season events may be I was surprised at the sticker price of Tank and Roach’s fight. With this fight being seen as a cherry-pick by fans, they can expect the PPV price to be dramatically reduced.
Why The Roach Was Chosen
- Low-risk option: Picking Roach gives Gervonta an opponent who has no chance to beat him, and continues to bring in the money safely.
- Regional interest: Tank is from Baltimore, and Roach is from nearby Washington, DC.
- Stay busy; fans in that area know Roach and won’t mind Davis fighting him instead of being one of the more talented fighters in the lightweight division.
- Show opportunity: This fight gives Gervonta a chance to look good against a smaller puncher, who will fight before being hit. It’s a much safer choice than when Tank fights an opponent like Raymond Muratalla, Edwin De Los Santos, or William Zepeda.
Tank Davis is referred to as an example of a work an undergrad. There are many in boxing, but you don’t often see someone holding a world title. He chose not to take on dangerous battles that would enhance his legacy and make him more money.
Confidence just isn’t there for Davis. On the outside, he may pose as a good friend, saying boldly, but his actions show that he is afraid. Deleting his X recently after it was pointed out how fans were pressuring him to fight Keyshawn Davis proves that he doesn’t believe in himself.
It’s hard to tell if that’s a sign of lack of confidence in Tank or his superiors. It goes back to Davis himself. If he was ambitious, he could force his promoters to match him with better opponents now, and he would be a big star and very rich.

Fans would rather fight and finish on December 14 than kick the can down on March 1. Even though there are three more months the organizers of the Tank vs. Roach is supposed to market the fight, it’s not going to attract a lot of people, or PPV buys.
Tank’s promoters need to start matching him with better opponents because their habit of picking weak opposition is hurting his popularity. He is loosely called the ‘Face of Boxing,’ but no one believes that. Aside from Grevonta’s match with Ryan Garcia in 2023, his fights have been low in PPV buys. It doesn’t have to be, but that shows the low-level opposition Davis has been up against.
