FedEx Prepares to Handle Holiday Shipping with New Tracking Features and Expanded Services

FedEx has announced that it is fully prepared to handle the peak demand for the upcoming holiday shipping season. With more than 500,000 team members and the ability to process 16 million packages daily, the company hopes to deliver a seamless experience for customers, even with five fewer shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.

“FedEx has been gearing up all year for the peak holiday season, and we’re committed to making it easier, faster, and more accessible for our customers,” said Brie Carere, senior vice president and chief customer officer at FedEx. “Shoppers are sure to feel the holiday rush thanks to five fewer shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, and we’re ready to give our customers more peace of mind with improved visibility and accuracy in estimated delivery times.”

New Visibility Tools for Secure Delivery

FedEx has introduced enhancements to its package tracking capabilities, including two new features accessible through the FedEx Mobile app.

  • Map View: This feature allows customers to track the real-time location of a delivery truck, complete with the latest time stamp, within a limited time window of four hours.
  • Photo Proof of Delivery Attempt (PPODA): In cases of missed delivery, customers can view the photo of the door tag left by the courier, adding clarity and confirmation. This builds on the existing Photo Proof of Delivery (PPOD) feature, which provides an image of the exact drop-off location for finished deliveries. FedEx reports that over 3 billion photos have been taken using PPOD.

Important Holiday Shipping Details

FedEx shared several important details to help customers prepare for the holiday shipping season:

  • It’s a busy day: The company predicts that Monday, December 2, also known as Cyber Monday, will be the peak day for holiday shipments. The Mondays leading up to Christmas are also expected to be high.
  • Host Control: The FedEx Delivery Manager app gives customers the ability to manage their deliveries, including scheduling drop-offs, rerouting packages, or taking a vacation.
  • Affordable Shipping: With FedEx One Rate, customers can ship two-day packages at a lower rate, available through January 19, 2025.
  • Restoration Made Easy: FedEx continues to develop return solutions, offering services such as no-label, no-box returns at more than 56,000 locations, including FedEx Drop Box locations.
