The Jim Henson Company Responds to Muppets Ride Closure at Disney World
As we learned late last week, dear Muppet*Vision 3D attraction at Walt Disney World has been confirmed to be part of the closure to make way for Pixar’s. Monsters Inc. land planned for the highly-billed expansion of Disney Parks in the works.
Then, over the weekend, it was officially announced that the Muppets Courtyard, home of Muppet*Vision 3Dwill be scrapped without a third-act effort from the Muppets to save their theater—though Henson’s geniuses have voiced how similar a Muppet movie it would be to making a last stand. But as things tend to undergo major changes at Walt Disney World, the era of the beloved cinematic 3D frenzy is over. Muppet*The idea.
What makes it even more interesting is that it was the last Muppets project helmed by their creator Jim Henson. It includes timeless animatronic work (Statler and Waldorf hanging out on the porch, Sweetums walking) as part of the show.
In a statement on Instagram, Jim Henson’s company shared the following: “Jim Henson’s last project was Muppet*Vision 3Dnow considered a true classic theme park. Creativity was always Jim Henson’s north star, and his career as a trailblazer led him to a unique challenge: a truly immersive Muppet experience where the audience is part of the fun frenzy of fame. The Muppet Show. It first came out in 1991, Muppet*Vision 3D integrated 3D technology with realistic real-world effects, along with animatronic and live Muppet characters. The result was a unique Jim Henson experience, and an unforgettable capstone to Jim’s magnificent career. As we learn of the show’s impending closure in its current form at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we’re looking forward to it Muppet*Vision 3Dnext act.”
The Muppets Courtyard featured the laughter and wonder of walking around the set of a Muppet production backstage area, with Miss Piggy’s photos galore—as Ms. Liberty fountain, which we hope will be re-homed in the Muppets’ new home (more on that below). At least we won’t miss the truly brutal (but somehow cult-like) PizzeRizzo slice house.
While i Monsters Inc. Monstropolis will take over as busy as it is right now, the Muppets won’t be far at least. In fact, they will play a leading role in the rethinking of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (currently titled Aerosmith) at Hollywood Studios. This news came along with the announcement of Muppet*Vision 3Dclosure.
It’s about a little, given that pairing an iconic family franchise with one of the park’s strongest coasters would differentiate the Muppets launch for kids; that was easier when baked Muppet*The idea as a gateway to get them interested in it The Muppet Show and the best movies on Disney+.
Here’s hoping that maybe Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster gets a new ride track like the interaction level of Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Bringing Back the Cosmic but maybe a little more family-friendly—and that might be what Disney Imagineering is thinking about, not just giving it a fresh coat of paint. Let’s see them all go Muppet-ifying it with a lot of Electric Mayhem.
