Floyd Schofield sent a message to his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, via X, asking him to let him fight WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson in February.
How Schofield, 22, (18-0, 12 KOs) asked De La Hoya to find a star at an early age in order to be given permission by Golden Boy Promotions to fight this type of fight. 2016 Olympic silver medalist Shakur.
Schofield is WRONG
If Schofield was Olympic gold medalist as De La Hoya begins his career, it would be one thing, but he is not that type of talent. De La Hoya won his first world title in his 12th fight in 1994, but he was years ahead of Schofield.
It would be a mismatch if you took that version of De La Hoya and paired him with Shakur. Oscar would destroy Shakur, but Schofield is not that type of fighter. Take Oscar’s talent and put it in Schofield, and he would crush Shakur like De La Hoya did Rafael Ruelas.
The fans would have roasted De La Hoya and Golden Boy if they had let the tall Schofield fight Shakur and something bad would have happened. Schofield’s last fight against Rene Tellez Giron showed that he is not ready to fight for a world title or take on one of the more talented strikers.
Schofield’s father was talking about him fighting Andy Cruz or Edwin De Los Santos for the WBA 135-lb title, but that’s crazy talk. Those guys were going to study Schofield and make him look bad. Those two are better fighters than Shakur in terms of offensive ability and entertainment value. Shakur is just a defensive guy.
“Brother, that’s your promoter. Call that man and do it. You have no direct contact with them? I told you who will get the Oscar [De La Hoya] reach out to. Let’s shake this thing up.. Begging him on social media for public exposure does not make for a fight!” said Shakur Stevenson on X, speaking with Floyd Schofield.
