Since he arrived Captain America: The Winter Soldier and he took out those wings of his, people wanted Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson to find a place for himself. Since Brave New World marks his first solo film, everyone involved wants to do well towards him in many ways, especially on the action front.
During Disney’s recent APAC Contest show in Singapore (thanks, Deadline), Mackie touched on how Sam stood out from Steve Rogers and John Walker. Despite his new position as a “national leader of his community,” Sam still works as a trauma counselor for military veterans. As such, Mackie said her character is “everyone’s friend,” and uses more thought in her actions. This is very important, given the pressure he is under in this film: not only is he in Black and acting as Cap after Walker kills a man in public, his friend Isaiah Bradley kicks off a plot by trying to kill President Ross for no apparent reason. .
That same level of reasoning will apply here Brave New World action scenes. Steve and John get the benefit of the Super Soldier Serum, but Sam is ultimately the guy with the high-tech wings, and the people on the street. Captain America movies tend to die more easily than characters in other MCU series. Mackie explained that Sam has to “get smart and create different ways to win [enemies],” especially as he competes against guys like Red Hulk. His Wakandan-designed suit evens the playing field by “taking all my skills to a whole different level,” the actor said. “I can kick hard, fly fast, and it gives me the ability to be faster in my skills.”
Previous movies and shows haven’t always been very good at showing Sam’s powers. We will see exactly how he behaves alone when Captain America: Brave New World will be available in theaters on February 14, 2025.
