How excited are you at the prospect of Apple actually launching its own TV? According to the latest Bloomberg magazine’s Mark Gurman, the Cupertino company “may be revisiting the idea of making an Apple-style TV set,” which he says he has “been exploring” for some time.
The first time we heard rumors of an Apple television was about 14 years ago, although Steve Jobs later dismissed the idea of a TV, saying there was no market for it at the time. We later found out that Jobs has an Apple TV program “integrated” into one of his biographies.
However, according to Gurman, the Apple television probably won’t happen if Apple’s other rumored hardware releases fail. Some of these releases include the Google Nest Hub smart home device, which is essentially an iPad mounted on the wall. It will provide integration with all other smart Apple devices as well self-management option.
According to predictions, it will run on a new operating system called homeOS and will be compatible with Apple’s new and latest Siri and the new Apple Intelligence.
Earlier this month, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also heard about another possible release from Apple: a smart home IP (Internet Protocol) camera. Reportedly, Apple will equip this product with improved Siri and Apple Intelligence.
The Cupertino company seems to be really invested in smart home technology lately. Apple is reportedly toying with the idea of producing an entirely new home device. This is different from the Nest-like hub mentioned earlier. This will be an improved version of the existing HomePod.
Gurman predicts that the HomePod will expand the screen to be as big as two iPhones side by side so that users can navigate to make video calls, browse the web, and check the calendar, among other tasks. This updated HomePod will look like the classic iMac G4 from 2002.
He also hints at another possible release after the iMac G4-style HomePod: a high-end home device with a big screen. This one will be controlled by a robotic arm that moves the screen to follow you around the room. Predictions point to a peak price of $1,000 for this product.
The 9to5Mac prediction I found important is that “Apple probably really wants to push the concept of customers using the Apple Vision Pro as their home theater, which will be counterproductive.” If Apple soon realizes that its TV set can kill its XR headset (even more), it may end its program.
