Mark Zuckerberg says ‘f*ck that’ on closed platforms

In the two decades at the helm of the company now known as Meta, Mark Zuckerberg has gone through many changes. Lately, he’s been showing off a less refined version of himself. But during a live-streamed interview with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, the Meta CEO seemed to go a little more off-script than he intended.

The conversation began normally enough, with two billionaire executives congratulating each other on their AI dominance. Zuckerberg made sure to talk about the company’s latest announcement before settling into his usual talking points, which he recently included .

Zuckerberg then began speaking at length about his frustration with a “closed” ecosystem like Apple’s App Store. None of this is particularly new, as the founder of Meta has been with Apple for years. But Zuckerberg, who is often very controlled in his public appearances, expressed his frustration, telling Huang that his “no” reaction was “that’s ridiculous.”

“I mean, this is kind of selfish, but, you know, after building this company for a while, one of my things in the next 10 or 15 years is like, I want to make sure that we can build the core technology and we’re going to build a social experience out of it, because there’s just so many things so much that I’ve tried to build and I’ve just been told ‘nah you can’t really build that by a platform provider,’ that’s the level I’m just like, ‘nah, fuck that,'” said Zuckerberg.

“There is an opportunity for us to broadcast,” Huang said. “Sorry,” Zuckerberg said. “Make me talk about closed platforms, and I get angry.”
