‘Fire demons’ are seen as California wildfires double in size
Thousands of firefighters have been battling a fast-growing wildfire in northern California, burning an area roughly the size of Los Angeles.
When the flame becomes large and hot enough, it produces large towers of wind. This column begins to rotate, drawing dirt, debris, and fire, creating the appearance of a firestorm, called “fire demons.”
Cooler temperatures are expected to slow the Park Fire, California’s largest wildfire this year.
