O’Shaquie Foster’s Lack of Offense Speaks Trouble Against Navarrete-Valdez’s Winner

Chris Algieri is not seeing newly crowned WBC super featherweight O’Shaquie Foster, who is not going well against the winner of the December 7 rematch between Emanuel Navarrete and Oscar Valdez.

Foster’s lack of punching power will put him at a disadvantage against the winner or loser of the Navarrete-Vadez fight. Foster says he wants that fight next, but it will be up to Top Rank to make that match. Judging by the number of boos from fans watching the Conceicao vs. Foster, it wouldn’t be a smart move for Top Rank to invest in that game.

Algieri says Foster O’Shaquie Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) focuses on making his opponents miss, but he doesn’t make them pay back. In other words, Foster is a defense and no offense, which has been a problem his entire career.

Foster scored a 12-round split decision win over WBC champion Robson Conceicao (19-3-1, 9 KOs) in their rematch last Saturday night at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.

The fight was close enough to go either way, but two judges scored it 115-113, 115-113, and the third scored it 115-113. Foster, 31, faded in the final three rounds and was punished on the ropes by the hard-working Conceicao.

“You’re 36, you’re 36. Age matters. There was a stretch in the middle round where you could see him start to fade, then he dove because he’s an aggressive person,” said Chris Algieri speaking to Probox TV about Robson Conceicao last Saturday night when he lost his 12-round decision. O’Shaquie Foster in their rematch.

Conceicao looked like a little hero inside the ring. Foster didn’t look rejuvenated by any means in that fight, and played a major role in the championship rounds from a more energetic Conceicao.

“He started pushing for action again. He was able to pin O’Shaquie in the ropes multiple times because he doesn’t have a consistent jab to stop the guy. “That’s what O’Shaquie is missing,” Algieri said. “He doesn’t have a consistent jab. He misses you but he doesn’t pay you and he allows a guy like Conceicao to keep ripping and roaring.”

The reason Conceicao was able to “pin” Foster on the ropes is because he was nailing him with looping shots in the middle of the ring. Foster didn’t like his punishment, so he slapped his cheeks against the ropes, hoping to block the shot.

“I love O’Shaquie Foster. I think it’s fun to watch. He is always around because he always does enough. That style will not go well with it [Oscar] Valdez once [Emanuel] Navarrete, especially Navarrete because it’s all over you. It sounds like it will be the next fight, but I won’t agree with him either,” said Algieri.

It’s not just Navarrete and Valdez that could be a nightmare for Foster. He will have problems against Eduardo ‘Sugar’ Nunez, Anthony Cacace, or Raymond Ford. O’Shaquie is 31 years OLD, and he’s not the fighter he’s been since his grueling fight against Eduardo Hernandez on October 28, 2023. Foster pulled off a 12th-round knockout in a fight he lost, but it’s a game. he took a lot out of him. Hernandez was lighting Foster up like a Christmas tree in that fight and had him on the brink of defeat going into the twelfth round.

Foster is “not fun to watch,” and that’s the problem. He’s like a poor man’s version of Shakur Stevenson, and that fighting style is not fun to watch. If fans are going to spend time on a Saturday night to watch a boxing match, they don’t want to watch a guy like Foster in a chess game.
