Keyshawn Davis blew his stack when he was asked during an interview about his old foe from his rookie days, Andy Cruz of Cuba, who beat him like a drum in their four fights. Davis (11-0, 7 KOs) he said harshly to the questioner when Cruz’s name was mentioned, he was shocked, exclaiming how the fight was given to his promoter, Eddie Hearn, without a response.

The look on Keyshawn’s face when Cruz’s name was brought up was that of someone with dangerous blood pressure. That name still haunts Keyshawn after all these years.
In a way, it’s hard to believe Keyshawn because Hearn said he would win the Cruz-Keyshawn fight in a second. Hearn is looking for that fight because he knows 2020 Olympic gold medalist Cruz will be training him for the fifth time, adding to his previous record of 4-0 against the Virginia native.
“After my performance against Lemos, I will be in danger of becoming a star,” said Keyshawn Davis to Manouk Akopyan, discussing his hopes of becoming a star after his fight with Gustavo Lemos on Friday.
Beating Lemos won’t turn Keyshawn into a star because he’s not a big enough name. Richardson Hitchins did nothing for him after he defeated Lemos earlier this year on April 6. To become a star, Keyshawn will need to beat the likes of Shakur Stevenson, Gervonta Davis, William Zepeda, Edwin De Los Santos, Vasily Lomachenko, and Andy Cruz.
“The most important thing is that I get my world title. After I became the world champion, my name is now confirmed. Not only did I get an Olympic silver medal, but I’m a world champion. Lomachenko, I think he will fight again and retire. Hopefully, you will choose me to fight. “If he wins his fight and retires, then I will go to the IBF,” said Keyshawn.
Lomachenko will NOT pick Keyshawn if it comes down to the last fight of his career before retirement. There’s no money to fight Keyshawn, and he won’t want to fight a guy who looks like a welterweight in size. Keyshawn is not yet a world champion, and US fans don’t care that he won an Olympic silver medal. That junk doesn’t impress American fans. All that proves that Keyshawn wasn’t good enough to win the gold medal against Andy Cruz.
“Me too [WBO champion] Berinchyk is a great host So, either of those two routes. Tank, Shakur, and I, I think we’re the best at 135. People won’t give me credit, saying I should be a champion. I’ll fight anyone but Shakur.
“The ball is in their court. We are waiting for them,” said Keyshawn when asked if he would like to fight Andy Cruz. “We have already sent them the contract. I just started live with Eddie Hearn and I started a fight. I don’t know what else you want me to do [to make the Andy Cruz fight]. “
In fact, the ball is in Keyshawn’s court because he is the one who dismissed the idea of fighting Cruz since he became champion saying that he does not bring anything to the table and it is a different story now. It seems obvious to some that Keyshawn is afraid of Crawfurd, which is fine. Okay, but it would be nice if Keyshawn agreed so the media would stop asking him about that fight.
“Stop asking me this question,” said Keyshawn when asked about Cruz. “I once tried to fight these guys when I was a teammate. I can fight him now as a main event. If I send him the contract, will he sign it? I don’t know. I will fight for my world title and the biggest fights there are. He is one of the biggest fighters out there. “
The media and fans will keep asking Keyshawn about Cruz because he always says different things when he is brought up, which indicates that he does not want to fight this talented Cuban player because of his repeated failures. When you get hit as often as Keyshawn did against Cruz, it’s understandable why you’d be willing to say anything to avoid a fight. These aren’t freshmen where Keyshawn can lose, and it’s not a big deal. If he is beaten by Cruz in the pro ranks, he can say goodbye to his dream of fighting for the world title and making good money to buy houses.
“I will not continue performing if they are not ready. What are they, 4-0? He is not ready yet. He has no followers. All his followers are built around me. “I want to fight him in my next fight but his promoters and managers say no,” said Keyshawn.
Eddie Hearn says otherwise. He called Keyshawn and said that he is ready to make a fight between him and Andy Cruz. He sounded like he was having a heart attack when he said he was going to do that fight. So, who are we to believe? Hear it or Keyshawn? When you consider that Cruz beat Keyshawn four times in the amateurs and has a 4-0 record against him, you have to believe that Hearn wants to fight, but he doesn’t.
