This drill will help you hit the fairway woods better than ever.

It’s happened too many times to count: you go for a par-5 in two, only to have the top of your fairway wood a few feet in front of you. Nothing is more frustrating, especially if you’ve spent the better part of the hole waiting for the green to clear.
But before you bench your fairway wood, try this clever drill from instructor Natalie Sheehan designed to improve your touch and consistency.
The directions are simple. Lay the golf tee down horizontally, end facing your club and swing, trying to hit the tee with touch.
“Get in the habit of sweeping up the tea as you pass,” said Sheehan. “This will allow you to communicate effectively without hitting too low or too high.”
Touch down is the key to fairway woods. Many golfers think they shouldn’t hit the ground when they hit their woods, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. This practice will help you understand exactly how low you should be hitting when using these handy clubs.

And to make this practice even more fun, see how many times you can hit the tee in a row. First try to reach 10, then 20, then 30 and so on. This challenge will create a little pressure to make sure that you will find the center of the face regardless of the situation when you leave the course.
This drill is also great because it gives you a clear idea of where your club naturally lands in your swing. Golfers often struggle to connect with their fairway woods because their ball position is not aligned with their low point. If you notice that your swing is coming off the tee, put the ball back in your stance and try again.
